How the Lighter Referral Program Works — Fee Kickbacks & Premium Trial

Looking for the code itself and the fastest way to apply it? That lives on our Lighter referral code page. This guide is the other half: what the program actually pays, and under what conditions. Every figure below is quoted from Lighter's own referral documentation, read on 14 August 2026. Lighter can change any of it, so check the source before you act on it.

Why This Referral Isn't a Fee Discount

On most exchanges a referral code saves you money by cutting your trading fees. That model does not apply the same way on Lighter, because Lighter charges 0% maker and 0% taker on standard accounts. There is nothing there to discount.

What Lighter's documentation describes instead is a rebate on Premium fees. Its opening line is direct about the framing: "Lighter remains free to trade for most users. This referral program rewards you for referring traders who choose Premium, letting you earn a share of the fees they pay."

So the referral is aimed at the minority of users who pay fees at all. If you trade on a standard account and never touch Premium, using a code costs you nothing and gains you nothing. If you have read our what is Lighter overview, this is the commercial layer sitting on top of it.

What Code LIGHTERPEDIA Gets You

Signing up through the referral link app.lighter.xyz/?referral=LIGHTERPEDIA applies code LIGHTERPEDIA at account creation. Per Lighter's documentation:

• You are prompted to activate one week of Premium for free. Trading fees you pay during that week are rebated to you every Monday.
• The rebate is capped at the first $10M in trading volume during the trial. Both maker and taker volume count toward the cap.
• The trial week starts at sign-up, when the code is used.
• Attribution is permanent: Lighter says a referral code cannot be changed or added after sign-up.

Points Are a Separate Program

Lighter runs a points program and a referral program, and they are documented separately. Conflating them is the mistake this page used to make.

Lighter's points program documentation covers earning points through organic trading via the UI and API, with Season 2 distributions paid every Friday, and states that Sybil activity, self-trading and similar behaviour earn nothing. It does not describe a referral bonus, and the referral documentation does not mention points.

Points are widely treated as the path to a future LIT distribution, but no token generation event date has been officially confirmed. Treat any specific airdrop timing or per-point value as an estimate, not a promise. The points and token hub tracks program updates.

The Referrer Kickback Tiers

If you refer others, Lighter pays you a percentage of the gross fees your referred users pay. The tiers, quoted from its documentation:

The conditions Lighter attaches:

• A referred user counts as active for 5+ days once they have traded on at least 5 separate days.
• Only users who signed up on or after 28 July 2026 count toward tier requirements.
• Tier upgrades are reviewed manually and applied weekly, on Mondays. A new rate applies to fees generated from the upgrade date onward and is not backdated. Lighter states that meeting the requirements makes you eligible, but upgrades are granted at its discretion.
• Rebates for both sides are paid weekly as L2 transfers, covering Monday 00:00 UTC to Sunday 23:59 UTC of the preceding week, with a $1 minimum.
• Wash trading, self-referrals and other attempts to game the program result in disqualification and forfeiture of pending rebates.

Is It Worth Using a Referral Code?

For most new users the honest answer is that it changes very little either way. You are joining a zero-fee exchange regardless, and the documented benefit is a rebate on fees a standard account was never going to pay. It becomes worth something if you intend to trade on Premium in your first week, within the $10M volume cap.

Using a code costs nothing and cannot raise what you pay. It also cannot be added later, so if you are going to use one it has to be at sign-up.

Two things worth keeping in view. Lighter describes every part of this program as discretionary and reserves the right to end it at any time, so treat it as a possibility rather than an entitlement. How to Get Started with Code LIGHTERPEDIA

1. Open the referral link app.lighter.xyz/?referral=LIGHTERPEDIA, which applies code LIGHTERPEDIA automatically at sign-up.
2. Connect a self-custody wallet (MetaMask, Rabby, or WalletConnect). See connect wallet and deposit USDC.
3. Decide on the Premium trial. Lighter says you are prompted to activate it at sign-up. It is only worth activating if you expect to pay Premium fees that week.
