Points, the LIT Token & the Airdrop

The points program, the LIT token, staking, and the airdrop outlook — how activity on Lighter turns into rewards. New here? Start with the Lighterpedia trading guide hub or what Lighter DEX is.

The Lighter Points Program

Lighter runs a points program that rewards trading and ecosystem activity. Season 2 is currently live, with distributions paid weekly on Fridays, so points accrue on a predictable cadence as you trade. Points are widely expected to feed into a future LIT token airdrop, which makes accumulating them the primary way most users position for that potential distribution. For the full mechanics, including how weekly scoring works and how to think about airdrop timing without the hype, see the Lighter points program and airdrop guide. Importantly, there is no confirmed TGE yet, so any figure you see for airdrop timing or per-point value is an estimate, not a promise — treat it accordingly. The referral program is separate from points: per Lighter's referral documentation it pays the referrer a share of the trading fees their referred users pay, and offers the referred user a one-week Premium fee rebate. Lighter's points documentation does not mention referrals at all. To learn how points and the token connect, read what is the LIT token.

The LIT Token — Staking, Tiers & Buybacks

LIT is Lighter's native token, designed to align long-term users with the protocol. Its core roles are staking, premium account tiers, and buybacks: staking LIT can grant enhanced features and a share of protocol value, premium tiers unlock advanced functionality on top of the zero-fee standard experience, and buybacks return protocol revenue to the token. Because Lighter is zero-fee for standard trading, the token — rather than per-trade fees — is central to how value flows through the ecosystem. LIT also trades as a perpetual on Lighter itself: the live LIT market page carries price, funding and open interest, which is a separate question from holding the token. As with the points program, treat any unreleased tokenomics detail as provisional until confirmed by Lighter directly, and verify specifics in the official documentation.

Public Pools and Ecosystem Participation

Beyond directional trading, Lighter offers public pools that let users provide liquidity and participate in the venue's market-making and flow, earning a share of the results while keeping funds on a self-custodial, Ethereum-settled platform. Combined with verifiable order matching and the Escape Hatch for trust-minimized withdrawals, public pools round out an ecosystem built around transparency: you can trade zero-fee, provide liquidity, earn points, and hold LIT, all while independently verifying that the protocol is behaving as claimed. As Lighter ships new markets — including RWAs and pre-IPO perps — the points program and token mechanics continue to evolve, so check the docs and app for the latest terms before committing capital.

Points, Staking and the LIT Token

Signing up with code LIGHTERPEDIA applies the code automatically. Lighter’s referral documentation says new sign-ups are offered one week of Premium with trading fees rebated on the first $10M of volume, and that rebates are discretionary. Standard accounts trade at 0% maker and taker either way.
